Cocoa:Why Apple Will Turn to Holograms - Businessweek

Why Apple Will Turn to Holograms - Businessweek
Look around your office hallway or college campus and you’ll see people holding interactive panes of glass. Smartphones and tablets, so revolutionary a few years ago, are quickly becoming commodities. "

First use of Obi-wan in a serious article about Apple products, seriously.

Cocoa:Early Apple prototypes by frog design's Hartmut Esslinger featured in upcoming book

Early Apple prototypes by frog design's Hartmut Esslinger featured in upcoming book: "Most of the examples come from the 'Snow White' design language, a version of which ultimately came to market with the Apple IIc, and are similar to actual Apple products, while others are more abstract and bear no resemblance to anything that came out of Cupertino. "

Many fond memories of the stylish Apple IIc, but my teeth were cut on the ][+. Two plus forever!

Cocoa:Old People // ben's blog

Old People // ben's blog: "Your startup is going well and as your business expands, you hear the dreaded words from someone on your board: ‘You need to hire some senior people. Some real ‘been there, done that’ executives to help you get the company to the next level.’ "

As I recall, this strategy didn't really help Apple (ie. John Sculley).

Cocoa:Google's Eric Schmidt says Android 'clearly' winning against Apple in phones

Google's Eric Schmidt says Android 'clearly' winning against Apple in phones: "With a wide range of devices at numerous price points running the Android operating system, Google's mobile platform is 'clearly' winning over Apple's iOS, Eric Schmidt believes."

I'm not sure that more users and a fragmented device base is necessarily winning. Gross margin is a form of winning.

Tony Fadell: Recently ousted Forstall 'got what he deserved'
In an interview with the BBC on Thursday, former Apple executive and "grandfather of the iPod" Tony Fadell said that outgoing iOS chief Scott Forstall "got what he deserved," underscoring rumblings of quiet discontent heard of the ousted exec's assertive character."

The sad truth is noone would be making public statements like this if Steve was still alive. It's sort of the beginning of the end. Good thing we still have The Woz keeping it real.

Apple's rumored chip switch from Samsung to TSMC may send shockwaves through industry: "Concerns are already arising in the semiconductor industry about Apple's potential switch from Samsung to TSMC for production of iPhone and iPad processors."

There we were, making huge piles of money together. And then we had to both go and get litigious.

Cocoa:Apple quietly acquiring former Nortel patents from Rockstar Consortium

Apple quietly acquiring former Nortel patents from Rockstar Consortium: "An announcement on Tuesday from a Korean property rights regulator revealed that Apple has taken control of 1,024 patents and patent applications from the Rockstar Consortium, a bidding group led by the Cupertino company that won an auction for a package of Nortel patents in 2011."

If you were the most sued company on Earth, you'd want all the patents so that everyone would stop suing you. In theory, but we both know that's unlikely.

Samsung reportedly hits Apple with 20% price increase for iPhone, iPad chips
The person indicated that Samsung asked for a "significant price raise" for building chips such as the A6 chip found in the iPhone 5 and the A6X processor that powers the fourth-generation iPad."

We'd like to think that we can reduce the activities of an entity with one name to a single behavior. But the truth is, in a situation like this, winning (the lawsuit) might not really be winning.

I think it goes without saying that independent software vendors can't just pony up $3000 to support a tiny subset of the Mac user base.

The real question is: who has time to analyze these kinds of statistics?
