Cocoa:OS X Mountain Lion confirmed to support Fusion Drive on legacy Macs

OS X Mountain Lion confirmed to support Fusion Drive on legacy Macs: "In a post to Tumblr, developer Patrick Stein unofficially confirmed that Mountain Lion provides Fusion Drive support for current Macs, as he was able to 'build' a hybrid drive compatible with Apple's new storage technology. "

My estimate is a 3rd party ISV will have a solution for this within 30 days.

Cocoa:ARM announces 64-bit Cortex-A50 mobile processors coming in 2014

ARM announces 64-bit Cortex-A50 mobile processors coming in 2014: "ARM on Tuesday unveiled new its next-generation of high-performance, power sipping 64-bit chips — CPUs that could power future devices from companies like Apple as soon as 2014."

It's so clear that to get into the smaller form factors like the iPad you need ultra low-power chips. But low power ain't what it used to be. The iPad 2 is fast. In fact, Safari seems faster on the iPad than on a CoreDuo MacBook. Feature bloat is probably why.

Listen to Steve Jobs Describe the iPad in 1983 - Technology - The Atlantic Wire: "Everybody knows that Steve Jobs was a hell of a visionary, but every once in a while, we're reminded that the Apple co-founder wasn't years ahead of his time. He was decades ahead."

Love the hippie Wozniak photo.

Cocoa:Nokia No Longer a Top 5 Smartphone Vendor - John Paczkowski - Mobile - AllThingsD

Nokia No Longer a Top 5 Smartphone Vendor - John Paczkowski - Mobile - AllThingsD: "Nokia’s transition away from its Symbian operating system to Microsoft’s Windows Phone OS has cost it dearly in the smartphone market."

There's clearly a lesson here, but I'm not sure anyone could articulate it. I owned a Symbian device and the development SDK in 1993.

Cocoa:Newsweek to cease print edition, go digital-only with iPad & other platforms

Newsweek to cease print edition, go digital-only with iPad & other platforms: "The rising cost of print has forced Newsweek to go digital-only starting in 2013, leaving its iPad app as one of the few ways to read the nearly 80-year-old publication."

Another case of bits trumping the value of atoms. http://archives.obs-us.com/obs/english/books/nn/ch01c01.htm

Facebook is attempting to become the world’s communication hub. Off to a good start. Amazon wants to be the world’s store. All of these guys compete, but they also link up in different ways."

Google vs Amazon vs facebook vs Apple. Did I get the capitalization right?

Cocoa:Report reaffirms 13" Retina MacBook Pro still on track for 2012 launch

Report reaffirms 13" Retina MacBook Pro still on track for 2012 launch: "Research firm NPD DisplaySearch says Apple is likely to release a Retina display-packing 13-inch MacBook Pro before the year is out, with production currently on schedule for sometime in the fourth quarter. "

I think it goes without saying that independent software vendors can't just pony up $3000 to support a tiny subset of the Mac user base.
